The English Department of JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida, recently organized a departmental seminar to foster academic exchange among faculty members. On June 28, 2025, Ms. Kanishka Verma, Assistant Professor, delivered the inaugural presentation titled "Exploration of the Idea of Female Body: A Case Study of ‘Leeches’." The seminar critically examined issues such as the commodification of women, the practice of “one-day bride” marriages, and societal obsession with purity and virginity. Drawing from feminist thinkers like Naomi Wolf, Luce Irigaray, and John Berger, Ms. Verma analyzed how patriarchal structures control women’s bodies and identities. The presentation encouraged scholarly discussion and ended with a compelling call for social awareness and policy-level change.
