Assessment of Rural Drinking Water Supply Schemes

This briefing document synthesizes the findings and operational framework of the technical assessment conducted in the Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh. The assessment, part of the "Jal Seva Adhyayan" initiative under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), evaluated the implementation, infrastructure, and water quality of rural supply systems in villages such as Bahedwa and Nehtada. Critical takeaways include a high level of household connectivity (approximately 75%), but significant operational challenges, specifically a limited daily supply duration of only 30 minutes. While basic infrastructure like Overhead Tanks (OHT) and pump houses are generally in good condition, the system is hindered by pipeline leakages, low water pressure, and electricity shortages. Water quality testing confirms that most parameters fall within acceptable ranges, though continuous monitoring of residual chlorine at tail-end connections remains a priority for safety. The evaluation confirms significant progress in expanding rural water access in Alirajpur under the Jal Jeevan Mission. However, the transition from infrastructure completion to reliable service delivery remains a challenge. The Whole Program was coordinated by Dr. Manoj Kumar, Ms. Jyothi C N & Mr. Bharath. B.
